Transformation Quarterly 01_2025

2025 – what is coming, what will stay as is? With regard to businesses, one thing is clear: 2025 will be another challenging year – with new changes, further political uncertainties, and ongoing pressure to transform. It will be about managing restructuring and digitalisation programmes, implementing ESG requirements, and successfully navigating mergers and the associated integrations – to name just a few of the current topics.

Accordingly, many organisations are set for continuous transformation. While one change process is still ongoing, the next one is starting, possibly with a whole new set of objectives. The pressure on communicators will be high. How can the reasons for changes be conveyed to the employees, how can perceived contradictions be put into context? How can managers and employees be motivated and brought on board? In order to communicate effectively during continuous transformation, the focus of internal communications (IC) must be on change communications and aimed at dealing with the practical challenges associated with the change processes. The video interview with Andreas Krosta (Talanx Group) and the article by Katharina Immoor (thyssenkrupp nucera) show how this can be implemented successfully in companies.

Communications departments increasingly work hand in hand with HR, because both have learned that they can only motivate and retain employees together. Janine Langlotz (DHL), Dr Jens Hagelstein (University of Vienna), and Tino Fritsch (Claas) provide insights into employee retention during change processes. And Dr Dirk Barghop sheds light on how HR, IC, and compliance can – and should – work together to promote “defensive diversity” within the company. Katharina Klahold explains that strategic design can make a substantial difference in communicating change.

Many thanks to all the communications experts who have shared their experience in managing change processes with us and opened up new perspectives in this issue of Transformation Quarterly.

We wish you all a healthy and peaceful New Year and a stimulating read!
